Surgical Navigation System Cart

Challenges

Radionics wanted an improved cart design that would:

• Have a smaller footprint for crowded ORs
• Facilitate handling by one tech
• Provide a better appearance

Solution

MPE developed an integrated, dual-cart system. One cart held the 3D camera that surgeons use to calibrate their instruments to landmarks on CT and MR images. The other supported the viewing station. Previously, the two carts were sourced separately and when combined, were large and unwieldy to operate. The MPE designers blended the bases of the carts so they could be easily docked and moved by one person. The unit was 40 percent smaller than the original, improved the ergonomics and ease of use, and provided a refined, sleeker look. MPE handled everything from design through engineering and manufacturing – while meeting the lean budgetary targets with ease.
